A few weeks ago, we hosted our first annual K2 Innovation Summit at the beautiful Oceano Hotel and Spa in Half Moon Bay on February 13, 2014. We had over 180 attendees from across the globe join us for a day of infinite innovation, peer-to-peer networking, and a bit of friendly competition!
The event featured several keynote speakers including Doug Stone of Maddock Douglas who showed us how to use models to ask the right questions, Jordan Rohan of Stifel who shared 2020 foresight and Navi Radjou, author of Jugaad Innovation and winner of Thinkers50 Innovation Award, teaching how to unleash your MacGyver instinct.
Along with our keynotes, we had CEO, Yoav Izhar-Prato, talking about building a culture of innovation before unveiling our new mobile app, Skai Anywhere, and Will Martin-Gill, our SVP Product, discussing product innovation at Skai along with Fiona Gill, our VP Global Client Excellence.
In the afternoon, we broke out of our seats and formed into small teams to truly test our innovation skills. We were tasked with the “marshmallow challenge” where each team had 20 minutes to build the tallest free-standing structure out of spaghetti, string, tape and a marshmallow. The winning team (below right) created a 36 inch structure and proved how you can accomplish goals with scarce resources.
Next it was time for the game show! This was Skai’s spin on The Price is Right where we called up several contestants from the audience and had them guess the bid prices on different ad placements presented by our partners. Those with the closest guess got to move on to the next round where they played for prizes. With a lot of boisterous participation from the audience, each contestant in the final round walked away with an Xbox One or Surface Tablet but the main highlight was definitely Aaron Goldman’s notorious purple suit!

We wanted to end the day with the overarching theme of the event: infinite innovation for exponential growth. We created an Innovation Lab that showcased some of the top CES gadgets from 2013 such as the Markerbot 3D printer, iDream head and eye massager, Samsung Galaxy watches, laser projection virtual keyboards and a Parrot drone helicopter. We even had Google Glass on hand.
Everyone got to test drive the gadgets and get a feel for some of the technology that is powering the future. A few lucky folks even got the chance to take them home after winning our prize drawing!
Overall, K2 was a great day of learning, collaborating and innovating. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and made this day such a great success and special thanks to our partners for their support of this event.
